What kind of animal is this?

so about a year ago i seen something that baffled me.so my dog was going crazy wanting to go outside and when i let her out she darted to what is an ex-field.it has tall grass so when she darted in i didn't want her to stumble on a pygmy rattler or a a copperhead so i did something stupid and went in with her.i knew the place off the back of my hand and my grandpa usually takes a tractor and mows everythang down.so there was a big hole and it was about 10 feet away but i could see their was something moving inside.then,princess found the exit hole and she started digging and a black thing ran out the other end.it was small and furry,it had two big ears and didnt have a tail,at all.then it darted into the taller grass and into a honeysuckle bush.does anyone have an idea what it was?
