Cat had a panic attack?

About an hour ago, my cat was quietly sitting in his bed but suddenly got up and began frantically running around the house and licking his chest and front paws. For about fifteen minutes he was wide eyed and had a fearful expression on his face, but I can't figure out why this happened because the house was quiet and there was nothing that was going on that might spook him. He has CRF and has been a bit lethargic, so I became concerned when he unexpectedly began darting across the room like he was trying to run out of something that was caught on him. He's fine now, but I can't figure out if what is going on is something to be worried about or if it wasn't anything serious.
